Nairobi Design Week 2018 is taking place on 18-25th March and in the run up to the festival, we have the perfect opportunity to bring some new faces to our team.

We’re a team of volunteers who have been working to bring an unforgettable experience to our community and to make it even better, we need support in several areas. We’ll be interviewing candidates on a rolling basis. There are currently 3 open positions, listed below.

is design your life?

We are looking for a talented Digital Media Intern to handle our social media accounts. You will be responsible for creating and managing posts and communicating with our followers.

You’ll get to share with our community on a daily basis: the latest design news, events, jobs, directory entries, technologies and trends. You should have excellent communication skills and be able to express your views creatively. By working with our team, you’ll learn how to grow an audience and engage a passionate community.

You will get to…

Create content for our channels by going to events and meeting talented creatives in Nairobi. Support our website by generating interest in its features.
Curate by searching the community for the latest designers, projects and resources, such as jobs, events and tutorials.
Manage content pillars and implement a social media strategy. Research, generate, edit, publish and share exciting content.
Suggest ways to improve the value we bring to the community, implement new creative campaigns to develop brand awareness.
Communicate with followers, respond to queries and monitor feedback.

You will have…

Proven experience in building and managing an online community
Excellent copywriting skills, good aesthetic taste, ability to recognise good design.
Motivation to manage Nairobi Design Week social media on a daily basis, with timeliness, professionalism and communication skills to match.
Talent to deliver original creative content (text/images/video). Understanding of hashtags, SEO and keywords. Passion for design, its impact and its disciplines.
Your own smartphone, reliable internet connection and the ability to work independently.

We are looking for a focused and reliable Graphic Design Intern with a love for creating high impact visual communications. These will include marketing materials, posters and other visual assets.

You will work closely with the rest of the team to create artworks for our social media pages, website and events.

You will get to…

Work with designers, writers, photographers and other creatives to get the design community excited about Nairobi Design Week.
Be a key part of generating the buzz around the run up to this year’s festival.
Think creatively and develop new design concepts, graphics and layouts to present to the team.
Use our templates and learn our brand guidelines to understand how our visual identity functions, as well as impacting how it looks in future.
Create final designs with team feedback, ensure completion and publication.
Experience hands on and remote work with a team of creatives who love connecting the design community.

You will have…

An exciting portfolio of graphic design projects
Experience using design software such as InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop
Ability to clearly communicate, present ideas and take initiative
Creative flair, versatility and originality
Ambition to develop as a designer, giving and receiving feedback and creative direction
Your own computer, reliable internet connection and ability to work independently

Write for the community...

We are looking for a dedicated and talented Blogging Intern with a passion for bringing the freshest design news, stories and events to our community.

You will generate engaging, original content for our website, talk to our community and research topics. You’ll interact with our audience to better understand them, stay current on industry trends, see the latest projects and meet professional designers. By working together with our social media and communications team, you’ll learn how to improve and promote your writing.

You will get to…

Pitch and research ideas for posts to write, edit and publish across our platforms.
Create opportunities to attract new readers and have a leading role in running the website.
Use our WordPress backend to generate new posts for the website by uploading and laying out content such as text, images, videos and animations.
Be invited to events, studios and galleries, Invite other bloggers, experts and notable guests to contribute content to the website.
Maximise site traffic by utilizing SEO (Search Engine Optimization), keywords, tags and categories.

You will have…

Examples of your writing, either online or in shareable form.
Knowledge of the WordPress platform and a willingness to learn new skills
Passion for design, its impact and its disciplines
Initiative to ensure there is a constant flow of posts to our website. Proactivity to talk with partners, generate leads for new content, ask for stories and ensure they provide the right information to make the best blog posts possible.
Time to write, edit and publish at least 4 blog posts per week.
Your own computer, reliable internet connection and ability to work independently
