The Change by Design Conference was the first of its kind to be held in East Africa. You could still smell the paint drying on Kampala’s freshly opened Design Hub, as attendees poured in for the first ever Change by Design conference. The one day event was organised by Design Without Borders and drew an impressive number of engaged attendees from startups, SMEs and the public sector.
Morning keynotes from Anna Kirah and Adrian Jankowiak from Nairobi Design Week presented the value of design to businesses through learnings from the speakers’ professional experiences. We were kept entertained by an informative and witty MC throughout the day. Workshops about prototyping, service design and design thinking helped participants work off their lunches. Adrian Paulsen rounded off the conference with a guide to creating change through service design.
We definitely hope the Change by Design Conference becomes an annual fixture on the East African design calendar.
